Renting a Car in Turkey as a Foreigner: Licence, Age, Deposit and Insurance (2026)

Renting a car turns a holiday on the Turkish coast into something that runs on your schedule: a quiet morning swim in a hidden cove, lunch in a mountain village, sunset on the coast road — all without watching the clock for a departure time. If you're travelling from abroad, here's everything you need to rent a car in Antalya or Bodrum without any surprises.

Who can rent a car?

As a rule, renting a car in Turkey requires you to be at least 21 and to have held your licence for one year. For luxury sedans, SUVs and exotic cars the minimum age usually rises to 25–30, and some models may carry an extra "young driver" condition. Telling us who will be driving from the outset lets us offer you the right terms.

Which licence is valid?

Tourists may drive in Turkey on their own country's valid national licence. If your licence is printed in the Latin alphabet, it's enough on its own for short visits. If your licence uses another script (Arabic, Cyrillic or Chinese, for example), you'll also need to carry an International Driving Permit (IDP). We recommend carrying both documents together.

What to bring with you

  • Your passport (plus entry/visa details if needed)
  • A valid driving licence (and an IDP if required)
  • A credit card in the main driver's name (for the deposit)

How does the deposit work?

The deposit is held on your credit card for the duration of the rental — it isn't charged, and it's released once the car is returned undamaged and free of fines. The amount depends on the value of the car: modest for a sedan, higher for an exotic. The deposit is normally taken on a credit card; cash and debit cards aren't accepted for most luxury vehicles.

Insurance: what does it actually cover?

The rental price includes mandatory third-party liability insurance, which covers damage to the other party. For damage to the car itself, collision / comprehensive cover can be added as an option, reducing or removing the excess (your share of any damage). Tyres, glass and the underbody may be excluded from some packages, so always confirm the excess amount before you rent.

When renting a luxury or exotic car

For cars like the Maybach, G-Class, Ferrari or Lamborghini the rules are a little different: a higher minimum age (25–30), a larger deposit and often a mileage limit. If you'd rather not be responsible for the wheel, or the age and deposit conditions don't suit you, a professional chauffeur option removes that friction entirely — and it's far more relaxing for airport pickups, weddings and city tours.

Fuel, mileage and extras

  • Fuel: Usually a "return it as you received it" policy applies.
  • Mileage: Mostly unlimited on standard cars; exotics may have a daily limit.
  • Additional driver, child seat, delivery: Arranged on request; a child seat is normally free of charge.

Driving in Turkey: the essentials

Motorways and bridges use the HGS electronic tolling system (we handle the tolls on our cars for you). Speed limits are generally 50 km/h in towns, 90 on intercity roads and 120 on motorways; seat belts are mandatory, and in an emergency you call 112.

Is an International Driving Permit (IDP) required? Only if your licence isn't in the Latin alphabet; in that case, carry it alongside your national licence.

What's the minimum age for a luxury car? Usually 25–30, depending on the class. Tell us which car you have in mind and we'll confirm the condition.

Is a credit card mandatory? For the deposit, yes; a credit card in the main driver's name is required.

Is insurance included? Mandatory third-party insurance is included; full (comprehensive) cover can be added as an option.

Will you bring the car to my hotel or the airport? Yes — we deliver to Antalya and Bodrum airports and to your hotel, villa or yacht.

Can I rent with a chauffeur? Of course; it removes the age and deposit conditions and is more relaxing.

Why don't you list a daily price? The price depends on duration, season, mileage and the chauffeur option. That's why we give a clear quote tailored to each request.
